Kahal’s Daughter Sells For 400 000 Euro In Foal To Frankel |
To hear the words Backworth Stud, Kahal, Chocolicious and Frankel in one sentence should be enough to get anyone to sit up and take notice. Keith Russon and Ian Todd’s Backworth-bred Chocolicious, a Gr 1 Allan Robertson winner and a daughter of Kahal sold for 400,000 Euro at the Goff’s breeding stock sale in Ireland in foal to Frankel.
The mare was one of three at the sale in foal to Frankel, and was bred to Southern hemisphere time, consigned for Darren Dance’s Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock by Ballyhane Stud.
KZN-bred Chocolicious (rated MR 105) won six races from 1000 to 1200m in South Africa, and placed in the UAE 1000 Guineas. Chocolicious is out of Gr 3 winning daughter of Exclusive Patriot, Candy Box – herself out of an Our Casey’s Boy/Brer Rabbit/Tom Rolfe mare. Candy Box bred three winners from four runners, and descends from the family of Hot Cross Bun and Royal Wish.
The 6-year-old mare was bought by agent Oliver St Lawrence.
Backworth Stud recently won the KZN Breeders Award for Champion Two Year Old colt, the Gr 2 winning son of Judpot – Colour Of Courage. Kahal was fittingly awarded KZN Breeders Stallion Of Year yet again, and also had the added accolade of being the sire of the Horse Of The Year, filly Festival Of Fire.
