Just As Well Sibling Places In El Prado Stakes |
The half-brother to Just As Well named Utley – cleverly named after an American baseball player being by stallion Smart Strike – has placed in the El Prado Stakes on 28 December at Gulfstream Park over 1600m on turf from Mr Online (Silent Name) and Salto (Pivotal).
A five-time winner who has also placed four times, he also finished three lengths off Pluck in the Gr 2 Breeders Cup Juvenile on turf and won and placed in England in the European Free Handicap.
Just As Well’s first progeny are yearlings, with great reports of being big individuals with plenty of bone. Roski Stud – who own Just As Well in a partnership, have a magnificent colt in particular on their farm [pictured – photo taken October 2012] which they will be retaining for themselves to race. The good-looking colt is equally well bred, being out of winning Fastnet Rock mare Rocky Beach.
Just As Well’s first crop of yearlings are a quality book – including a number of imported mares such as Lydara (by Alydar), French mare Rain And Shine (by Rainbow Quest and from the immediate family of Fort Wood) as well as a yearling named Honey Mustard, out of Gr 3 performed Carina Coleman.
Roski Stud have bred the likes of Journeyman – a Gr 2 placed colt headed for Dubai and Chilli Affair – a Western Winter colt half-brother to Journeyman who sold for R1,2 million at the 2013 Ready To Run Sale.
A Gr 1 winning family, with Just As Well being a Group 1 and 3 winner himself by Champion sire A.P. Indy, he is out of a Gr 1 winning mare No Matter What, by Nureyev – making him a three-quarter brother to Judpot.
His half-sister by Dynaformer, Rainbow View, is a seven-time winner in America, Ireland and the UK – including two Group 1 wins. Just As Well is closely related to top European sires E Dubai and Raven’s Pass.
Just As Well stands at Bruce and Delia Le Roux’s Spring Valley Stud for a fee in 2013 of R10 000 live foal.
