Final Fields For Lonsdale Stirrup Cup Gr 3, and Gr 1 Woolavington And Daily News 2000

This Saturday at Greyville sees the lead up to the Vodacom Durban July with three big races, the Daily News 2000 Gr 1 over 2000m, the Woolavington Gr 1 over 2000m and the Lonsdale Stirrup Cup Gr 3 over 2400m.

Baracah will be representing the KZN-breds in the Daily News 2000, Misty Morn in the Woolavington and Soul Master, Dolomite and Grey Cossack taking their places in the Lonsdale Stirrup Cup.

Baracah, a R190 000 graduate of the 2010 Emperor’s Palace National Yearling Sale, is a half-brother to Goat by leading National Two-Year Old sire, King Of Kings. He has had 12 starts and a win and two places. In February he ran 2.5 lengths of Golden Chateau in the Gr 2 Gauteng Guineas. Sean Tarry’s website says that Baracah will be using the race as a prep for the Gr 2 Gold Circle Derby.

Dolomite, a grey gelding by Labeeb out of Coastal Relative by Coastal, has had 16 starts and 3 wins and 4 places including a place in this race last year and the Aquanaut Handicap Listed. He was a R110 000 graduate from the 2008 Emperors Palace Ready-To-Run Sale. Dolomite is a half-brother to 11-time winning filly Coastal Waltz. Third dam Lady Peg(GB) was a champion older mare in Norway.

Soul Master, a son of KZN-bred Jet Master out of Saintly Soul by Comic Blush, a R275 000 yearling consigned again by Aldora Stud, won the Pinnacle Stakes by over a length on 15 April over a distance of 2600m carrying a hefty amount of weight(66kgs), with the horses all placing behind him only carrying 58kgs. He ran a third in the Caradoc Gold Cup Grade 3 in March and defeated Seal last year in April to win the Derby Trial Listed. Trained by Geoff Woodruff and ridden by Pierre Strydom, he is certainly going to be one to watch. His dam-line includes descendants Rolands Song, sire Savonarola and Mazarin (a Durban July winner), National Emblem and Villandry.

Grey Cossack is a four year old by Fanatic Dane out of Desert Fields by Salaadim, bred by J Goodman and trained by Herman Brown/Frank Robinson. Grey Cossack is a 3-time winner and has earned R421 765 including the Gold Vase Grade 2 from Predestination, as well as the Durbanville Cup (Listed) and he has placed 13 times including a third Cape Summer Stayers Handicap Grade 3. His dam is a half-sister to Celestial Dancer(IRE) a Graded Stakes winner in Germany, France and Britain. Grey Cossack is a half-brother to 4 time winner Goddess Of Hearts and two other winners.
