Double Date flew home by two lengths to secure the Champion Fillies Stakes Listed at Borrowdale Park for Fillies and Mares over 1600m for breeders and owners Manny and Mandy Testa of Midlands Thoroughbreds.
The daughter of Bezrin, standing at Rathmor Stud, is out of Date With Me by Harry Hotspur and trained by Sebastian D’Aquino, ridden by Brendon Mcnaughton.
The five year old mare has won three times and placed four times from her eight starts in Zimbabwe at Borrowdale Park and won her previous start over the same course and distance by four lengths. A winner in South Africa under the care of Chris Erasmus, she also placed nine times at Turffontein and the Vaal, including finishing two lengths off to Checcetti.
Second dam What A Bird produced five winners, including Double Date’s full-sister What A Beauty – a 12-time winner (including the Sceptre Stakes Gr.3) and placing 14 times including second in the Gr 1 Stuttafords Fillies Guineas.
This dam-line has also produced the likes of Jet Danza (Acacia Handicap Gr 3 winner) as well as Brown Image.
Bezrin (by Danzig out of Darling Flame by Capote) continues his successes with winners in Kenya, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Midlands Thoroughbreds have had successes with the likes of Filly Bushwacker, a four-time winner who also placed in the Yellowwood Handicap Gr 3 and Detzky’s Darling – a five-time winner.
Bezrin has produced Gr 3 winner Thunderflash, Tetelestai, Celtic Fire, All Ablaze and Tandragee. He is also the sire of Kenyan Derby winner Lazrin and recent Mauritian Stakes winner Hot Rocket.
