The 2011 Ready-To-Run gallops took place at Summerhill Stud last Friday. The panel of judges have provided their selections for the most impressive horses on show. The panel included some of the best judges of horses in the country including Mike de Kock, Jehan Malherbe, Joey Ramsden, Sean Tarry, Graeme Hawkins, Michael Roberts, Dean Kannemeyer, and Kip Elser the owner of Kirkwood Stables in America.
The sale takes place on the 6 November at the TBA complex, the day after the running of the Emperors Palace Ready-To-Run Cup for the 2010 sale graduates.
Horses sold at the sale will automatically qualify to run in the 2012 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Cup, with a stakes of R2 million on offer.
There are some beautifully bred horses on offer, with current Champion Breeders Summerhill Stud making up the bulk of the catalogue. They have quite a few very well-bred imports from Argentina and Australia on offer.
The most popular fillies were Lot 17 Nandi(AUS) by Danehill Dancer(IRE) – Celtic Queen(IRE) by Sadlers Wells(USA). All 3 of the favourite fillies are for sale under Summerhill’s banner. Nandi(AUS) is a full-sister to Queen Mira(AUS) a 3-time winner including placing in a Grade 2 and 3 race.
Lot 51 is Duduku by Muhtafal – Fragrant Forest by Fort Wood(USA). Her dam – a 5-time winner – is a half-sister to Fragrant Lady and Scented Royal.
The other filly that found popularity was the grey, Lot 109 My Argentine Lady(ARG). She is by El Prado(IRE) out of My American Lady(USA) by Gold Tribute(USA). Her dam is a 4-time winner including a Listed race.
The top 3 colts (all consigned under Summerhill Sales) were Lot 35, an Unnamed import from Australia by Royal Academy(USA) – Dubai’s Fairy by Medicean(GB) and has a lovely pedigree with stallion potential. The dam is a half-sister to 7-time winner Just James and 8-time winner Blue Jack.
The next was Lot 143 called Kite Surfer by Tiger Ridge(USA) – Seeking The Wind by Jallad. This colt is a half-brother to Martial Eagle and comes from the family of Redcarpet Style, Carolina Cherry and Royal Approval.
Lot 176 The Italian Job(AUS) is by Street Sense(AUS) out of Albanella(GER) by Caerleon(USA). This colt hails from the family of Sea The Stars and sire sensation Galileo.
Overall the stallion’s progeny who stood out the most seemed to be that of Summerhill resident, Mullin’s Bay.
