KZN-Bred Run Rhino Run Shocks With 21 Length Win
Run Rhino Run, bred by the former Aldora Stud in Nottingham Road, shocked the Sunday afternoon punters at Greyville with a 21.25 length win over a marathon 3000m.
Renowned for being a difficult ride and pulling hard from the second he jumped out the stalls, the gelding was allowed to set his own pace and route and saw him race a lot further than the prescribed 3km turf gallop.
It was a goosebump moment as the Greyville crowd watched the Silvano corner and cheered Serino home under his hard pulling mount.
Looking fit, the six year old son of Silvano was having his first start for trainer Kom Naidoo for owner Roy Moodley, and in the process had his fourth win in the lengthy MR79.
Out of Gr2 Oaks winner Haute Cuisine by Gallic League, Run Rhino Run sold for R240 000 off the KZN Yearling Sale in 2013.
Trainer Kom Naidoo described the horse as “He’s got rocks in his head, this horse!” At one time Run Rhino Run had a Merit Rating of 92 and has earned almost R400 000 in stakes. He has previously been in training with Paul Lafferty and Lezeanne Forbes.
Owner Roy Moodley said that he had thought his horse ‘had pulled off somewhere’. “He had the crowd in Durban View Room were on their feet. They were looking for him,” he laughed.
Serino Moodley after the race said, “I squeezed him at the 1000m and I let him run – I didn’t fight him at all,” who confirmed that he was expecting a tough ride when he arrived on track.
Well done to all concerned.
