KZN BRED MK’S PRIDE MAKES HISTORY

A new era in stallion ownership has dawned in South Africa as KZNBred Grade 1 and 2 winner MK’s Pride becomes the first black owned stallion to go to stud in the country. Owner Koos Nkale has formed a historic partnership with Solly Pooe, owner of another KZNBred Gr 1 winner, the Bush Hill Stud bred, Purple Pitcher.

Bred by Summerhill Stud, the son of Willow Magic – Ikimasu was snapped by Koos for R100k, after passing unsold through the ring at a sale. The aptly named MK’s Pride went onto win 10 races, and more than repaid Nkale’s faith in him with earnings of R2.7 million in the process.

Along with Jessica Motaung, herself a successful racehorse owner with many winners to her credit already, they are looking to attract new generations of black owners to the game, by forming various syndicates and encouraging a more active participation within the South African breeding and racing industry.

MK’s Pride will stand at Nigel & Kat Riley’s Heversham Park for a fee of R5 000.
