ITS DOWN TO THE WIRE – BREEDERS CUP 2024
Excitement is at fever pitch as the famed Breeders Cup meeting is due to take place starting tommorrow 1st November, running until Saturday 2nd Novemeber. Thanks to the relaxation of export protocols earlier this year, South Africa has been able to reverse the long drought and banishment to the wilderness, sending two of our top equine stars – Beach Bomb and Isivunguvungu to take part in the Fillies & Mare Turf and the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint respectively.
There is a great article in Sporting Post on South African horses and their various performances in the past, among them the great mare Spook And Diesel who finished second to Banks Hill (dam of the Mauritzfontein stallion Ideal World) in 2001.
South Africans will be holding their breath and crossing their fingers, that in spite of our isolation and export restrictions, we can still produce top class racehorses.
Let’s hope “The Storm” and the “Bomb” can blow away the oppostion at Del Mar on Saturday.
