HE GOOD DIE YOUNG

Devastating news as #KZNBred star colt Flag Man died after developing colic following an operation to repair a chip in his fetlock joint.

Flag Man grabbed the public’s imagination earlier this year after his heroic “never-say-die” run in the Grade One Daily News, where he engaged in a furious duel with the favorite Dean Kannemeyer trained Green With Envy to the wire, coming within a whisker of causing a major upset.

The Gareth van Zyl trained Flying The Flag – Irresistable Chris gelding also scored a narrow 4th in the famed Durban July, and prior to his fetlock chip, there were plans to run him in the iconic Cape Met until the chip in his fetlock intervened, and he was scratched.

The shattered Van Zyl yard were trying to cope with the loss of their equine superstar and echoed what everyone else is probably thinking – we never got to see his full potential or what he could have achieved!

Condolences to Clifton Stud where he was bred, and his owners – Larry Nestadt, Reon Barnard, Gary Player and Dave Maclean as well.

Rest In Peace and, thank you for brightening the KZN racing scene briefly with your brilliance – you will be greatly missed -https://www.sportingpost.co.za/kzn-star-gone-too-soon/
