G1 WINNERS AND SIRES DOMINATE CLIFTON’S KZN DRAFT
Peter and Jenny Blyth’s Clifton Stud will be offering seven yearlings, and two other lots as agent, at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale next week.
Remarkably, all nine of the Clifton yearlings are sired by either a G1 winner or a G1 sire!
First up in the draft is Empress Josephine (Lot 20), a filly by G1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade. This filly is out of Listed Banyana Handicap winner Sapphire Ring, herself a daughter of top class broodmare sire Spectrum.
G1 winner, and sire of G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic winner Takingthepeace, Visionaire has two lots in this draft. His son Vision To Glory (Lot 41) is out of a daughter of champion sire and emerging broodmare sire Silvano and G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner She’s A Winner. Visionaire is also responsible for Witzenberg (Lot 132), a half-sister to 3 winners notably Godolphin Barb second Beckedorf. This well bred filly is from the outstanding family which produced such English classic winners as Dr Devious, Dancing Rain and 2018 2000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior.
Triple G1 winner, and Equus Champion, Capetown Noir has a filly, Soiree (Lot 59), from his first crop on offer. Soiree is out of a six time winning half-sister to East Cape Nursery winner Triton and is from the wonderfully prolific Lily family.
Another from the first crop of Capetown Noir in the draft is Scarborough Fair (Lot 257). This bay filly is out of a winning own sister to Three Troikas Stakes winner Sharp Mistress and she hails from the same family as Clifton Stud bred Horse Of The Year, and July winner, Classic Flag.
Horse Of The Year Irish Flame is yet another G1 winning stallion represented in the Clifton Stud draft. His son Emerald Flame (Lot 153) is out of a winning half-sister to Storm Bird Stakes winner Midnight Serenade and he is closely inbred to legendary stallion Sadler’s Wells.
Deceased dual Guineas winner Noordhoek Flyer, a son of the mighty Pivotal, is the sire of an unnamed filly (Lot 199) whose Encosta De Lago sired dam is a half-sister to Australian G2 winner Pasta Express and this is the family of current sprinting star, and recent G1 Diamond Jubilee winner Merchant Navy.
July winner Greys Inn, sire of South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle, is the sire of a filly (Lot 224) whose Danehill Dancer sired dam is a half-sister to Irish champion Livadiya and to the dam of local sire and multiple G1 winner Linngari.
Proven sire Mogok, whose offspring include such champions as The Apache and KZN sale graduate Wild One, is the sire of Burmese Ruby (Lot 213). This colt, an own brother to a multiple winner, is out of a winning own sister to the dam of exported multiple G3 winner Madame Dubois.
