Clifton Stud Grab Egoli Mile, Turffontein Double

Peter and Jenny Blyth of Clifton Stud are standing a quality band of mares and their consistent results are only getting better – they enjoyed a double including the evening feature, taking the Non Black Type Egoli Mile with the smashing Gimmethegreenlight gelding, Laguna Verde.

Out of Capiapo by Captain Al, inturn out of a Fort Wood mare, Laguna Verde sold at Nationals for R600 000. Snapped up by trainer Lucky Houdalakis for owner Mr Shawe, the handsome dark bay has impressed from day one.

The cross of Gimmethegreenlight on Captain Al (13 Black Types) and Fort Wood (10 Black Types) was an astute one, and Capiapo has been enjoying great success at stud to date. Her own dam is Gr1 SA Fillies Classic winner Urabamba, and it is the family of Gr1 winners Top Inca and Gr2 winner (with 11 wins in total) Cholula. It is also the family of Crackpot.

Laguna Verde is now a 2-time winner, and placed four times include second in his penultimate start from nine runs.

Destiny Of Souls, by Master Of My Fate out of Almost Heaven by Trippi, is trained by Mike De Kock and owned by ASSM Syndicate (Mr A Chadha) and collected his second career win, with four places from nine runs.

A R420 000 Nationals graduate, Destiny Of Souls belongs to the sterling South African family of international stars Imbongi, Mahubo and Victory Moon, and the family of Kelly, Real Princess, William Longsword, Silver God, Trip To Africa, Oracle News and Spring Garland. The dam has produced a 2-time winner, Twice To Heaven.

Clifton Stud as of 21 February stats on www.nhra.co.za, are enjoying a winners to runners percentage of over 30%, with 20 wins for the season and over R1,7-million in stakes earned.

They will be bringing another handsome and well prepped draft to Nationals – don’t miss out!
