Byword’s First Yearlings On Sale At CTS Cape Premier Yearling Sale
Initially beginning his stud career at Rob and Michele Pickering’s Middlefield Stud in Mooi River, Byword transferred to Mauritzfontein and sees his first crop of yearlings go on sale in 2016 – the first being presented for sale in January at the CTS Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Byword’s female line has been made all the more stronger when Peniaphobia (by Dandy Man) ran out a facile winner of the Gr1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint, to score by half a length from Gold-Fun. Peniaphobia, who accounted for world class sprinters, shares his fourth dam Peace with Byword.
Runner up in the 1200m Sprint in 2014 and second in this year’s Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint, the four-year-old gelding has now earned more than £2,146, 178 in stakes with his previous wins including the HK Gr1 Centenary Sprint Cup and HK G2 Jockey Club Sprint. He may now be aimed towards some of the world’s top sprinters in 2016.
The latter, winner of the 2010 G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, was France’s Highweight Older Horse the same year of his Ascot triumph. A superb athlete, who won five stakes races, Byword also finished to triple Gr1 Breeders Cup Mile winner Goldikova in the 2010 G1 Prix d’Ispahan, when going under by half a length.
