KZN racing once again showed today why it’s the fertile ground for breeding champions, when Mark Dixon’s talented gelding Showmetheway beat off a top quality field to win the Listed R135 000 Golden Loom Handicap at Turffontein yesterday evening.
Lining up against the likes of Welwitschia, a multiple Grade 2 and 3 winner, and Valberg, the four-time “on fire” filly from the Dominic Zaki yard, he was rated an outside chance at the least, but it seems no-one told him that and he went onto win his fifth race on the trot for the Dixon stable.
Showmetheway’s impressive victory today is the culmination of hard work and perseverance, by Mark Dixon and his team in getting the son of Muhtafal to this point. Plagued with various health issues, which are now a thing of the past, the gelding has shown enormous grit and determination in getting back to winning ways.
Tribute must also be paid to his owner Mr Lin who never gave up or questioned what Mark and his team did in order to get Showmetheway back to full health.
Let’s hope this victory is only the beginning of greater things for the talented gelding and the Dixon team.
