Bush Hill Stud’s magnificent son of Fastnet Rock, the only son of the great Australian sire in South Africa, is off the mark with his first winner at the Vaal bred by Cathy and Jonathan Martin’s Hadlow Stud. Fast And Rocking, a two year old filly out of an Australian Archway mare, Terrestrial Rose, won second time out for trainer Mr D Little in a juvenile plate over 1200m.
After passing through the TBA National 2YO Sale as unsold in 2013, the Scott Bros’ Talktothestars has been knocking on the door for a big win and it came in the Gr2 Senor Santa Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday, his eighth career win to date. He has a Mogok half-brother coming up at the National Yearling Sale, a full brother to two winners.
The Scott Bros have 12 Two Year Olds ready to go into training. They are by Kahal, Mogok, Miesque’s Approval, Overlord, The Sheik, Atso, King’s Chapel and Curved Ball. They include siblings to recent winners TIME MARCHES ON and BEACH COTTAGE.
The KZN Grooms Training Course took place this week over three days and finished yesterday, taking place at Summerhill’s School of Equine Management Excellence. Spring Valley’s resident sire Just As Well earned a double yesterday at the Vaal, with two year old colt Chilli Con Carne winning his second start after placing second previously, and Just Africa adding to the day to get his second career win.

Summerhill’s young resident sire Golden Sword, the only son of High Chapparal at stud in South Africa, has seen his full-brother, All Body And Soul, get his second in Ireland over 2400m for trainer Tracey Collins. The 2012 gelding has had just five starts, winning twice and placing once.
Rathmor-bred Romany Prince, a Kahal half-brother to American and South African multiple Gr1 winner Gypsy’s Warning, not only gave his dam more Black Type by winning the Drum Star Handicap Listed but in the process, Ormond Ferraris’ 2500th winner in a career spanning 64 years. Scott Bros’ Gr2 winning son of Miesque’s Approval, Judicial, finished closely in second position.
Bush Hill Stud’s King’s Chapel is in form as another of his sons won by a powerful five and a half lengths at Greyville over 1000m. The handsome bay three year old gelding, aptly named Mr Mcsteamy, happens to be a half-brother to recent Class record setter at Scottsville – Dreya’s Gold.
A two year old colt named Refrain by Miesque’s Approval leads the juvenile log of the KZN Breeders Series, bred by Scott Bros and trained by Corne Spies.
