Backworth Stud: First Exciting Foals Arriving For The Season

Horse Chestnut (SAF) – Flutter Bye (SAF)

In a somewhat ironic scheduling of nature, Flutter Bye, a half sister to Grade 2 Ipi Tombe Challenge victress First Again, presented Backworth with our ‘second’ foal of the season.

A strapping colt by arguably the best racehorse to have run in South Africa in the past 40 years and the nation’s only Triple Crown winner in history, Horse Chestnut.

If his first few days in the paddocks are any indication, this chap is sure to send a few ‘hearts a fluttering’.

Pathfork (USA) – Plush (SAF)

Spring is almost upon us and with the changing of the seasons comes the much anticipated arrival of our first foals.

Kicking off the foaling season was our broodmare Plush (Fort Wood – Velvet Green), a full sister to Wonder Lawn, with her sprightly filly by Pathfork (Distorted Humor – Vision Of Clarity).

Here they are enjoying the freedom of a first frollick in the paddock.

Var (USA) – Cupid’s Daughter (AUS)

The Backworth breeding season is now well and truely in full swing with quite a few foals on the ground, and 3 very expectant mares putting the gynae on call!

Last Friday saw the arrival of the most beautiful Var colt out of our imported Australian mare Cupid’s Daughter (Ad Valorem / Albaicin).

Who says size doesn’t count? Long legged, but very well covered, with a frame promising lots more to grow into!

Miesque’s Approval (USA) – Forbidden Woods (SAF)

Forbidden Woods foaled down in the paddock mid-afternoon Friday, obviously feeling safe and warm, and delivered a lively, healthy filly foal, who seems very interested in everything her Mum does!

If her National Emblem yearling filly is anything to go by, this will be a family to watch!
