Summerhill’s Summer Ready To Run Sale – Await The Dawn Tops
With much needed rain flowing in Mooi River over the past three days, it didnt dampen the spirits of the buyers present who contributed to a much improved sales average for the Summerhill Summer Ready To Run Sale.
A sale that has catapulted in popularity with the likes of multiple Graded Stakes winner and performer No Worries, recent Gr3 Three Troika’s winner Anna Pavlova, Gr1 placed Coby and the speedy multiple winner Flyfirstclass as graduates, it is no surprise to see the sale well supported with trainers not only locally, but coming from as Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Kenya to purchase from the nation’s current National Champion Breeder.
The top seller of the day was an outstanding Await The Dawn colt out of Dignify by Rambo Dancer, beautifully named Genesis, he sold as Lot 65 to Nchakha Moloi who has an eye for selecting top horses – one of whom is his own Gr2 winning filly, Heaps Of Fun.
The colt, not only dripping with rain by oodles of quality and class was knocked down for R200 000 after generous bidding. He is of course a half-brother to 6-time winning Distinguished (including The Darley Arabian Listed) and 7-time winning Gr1 placed Coby. Dignify herself was a four time winner, including the Gr2 Golden Slipper – and is a half-sister to the brilliant Gr1 J&B Met winner, Angus.
The leading filly was Lot 94, another from Await The Dawn out of an Al Mufti mare, Maphiko. Purchased by Sarah Spencer, Night Vigil is a half-sister to two winners and her dam the half-sister to Black Wing. This is also the family of Bold Black Types Charisma, Stud Master, Spring Wonder and Chestnut Grove.
Scott Kenny was one of the leading buyers with nine lots purchased, and jockey Anthony Delpech supporting with a purchase. 73 Lots were sold for an average of R37 808.22, with an aggregate of R2, 760 000, eight Lots were withdrawn with 28 horses not sold.
The sadly prematurely deceased Await The Dawn, a son of Giant’s Causeway, left behind only two crops and his first will step onto the tracks in 2017.
Congratulations to the buyers and underbidders, and thank you to Summerhill and Hartford for their outstanding hospitality.
