KZN-Breds Sold At Final Session Of Cape Premier Yearling Sale – Book 1

Lot 206 Alareef from Summerhill Stud sold for R450 000. The colt shares a dam-line with Sea The Stars and Galileo. Cape Thoroughbred Sales hosted their Cape Premier Yearling Sale at the Cape Town International Convention Center from 26 – 27 January 2012.

Spectrum, currently standing at Yellow Star Stud, had a colt sold for R350 000 named Alpha Male. The colt, sold to Dayalan Chinsammy, is out of an Alzao mare called Alignment.

King Of Kings who has been in the news recently as the leading South African Two Year Old Sire by Stakes Earned, had a grandson sell at the sale for R1 150 000 out of his exceptional daughter Zooming Zellie. The colt, named Zambezi Torrent, was sold to Liam Mulryan. King Of Kings is currently at Clifton Stud.

Lot 268 from Aldora Stud, a filly named Saint Angelique, sold for R200 000 to AC Dickerson. She is by Var out of Saintly Soul by Comic Blush. Saintly Soul is the dam of 7 runners and 5 winners. The fourth dam, Postulant is an own-sister to Savonarola.

Anne Woodham, manager for Aldora Stud described Saint Angelique as: “A really strong athletic filly from a family full of Stakes winners who looks as though she will come early and is a half-sister to five winners including Soul Master, the Derby Trial winner and the ultra consistent Saint Stephen who won no less than nine races.”

Burwell Stud sold four lots with the last two on the final day.

Lot 226 is a Trippi filly named Rich And Rare. She sold for R275 000 to Ascot Lodge Investments. The filly is out of Gauteng Fillies Guineas Grade 1 winner Pacific Blue, by Model Man. Pacific Blue has now had 4 runners and 4 winners including 3-time winner Bet On Blue by Mogok.

Lot 196, a Trippi filly, sold for R200 000 to AJ Van Huyssteen. The filly is out of Mantaray Bay by Sadler’s Wells. This is the dam’s first foal. Mantaray Bay is an own-sister to Front House, Gold Circle Oaks Grade 2 and Dubai City Of Gold Stakes Grade 2 winner.

Seven consecutive season Champion Breeders Summerhill Stud were represented by six lots at the sale.

Lot 206, a colt named Alareef, sold for R450 000 to Blandford Bloodstock. The colt is by the now-deceased Stronghold, out of Machiavellian mare Modraj. This is an exceptional pedigree indeed, with the dam-line including current world champion stallion Galileo (sire of Igugu), Urban Sea, and world champion racehorse and now sire, Sea The Stars.

Lot 252, sold for R100 000 to WG Prestage, is a Kahal colt now named Muskets and Roses out of the mare Raise A Rose by Muhtafal. Raise A Rose is the dam of two as yet unraced foals. This the family of 8-time Graded Stakes placed Not Now Darling and 6-time winner, Marsh Harrier.

Lot 309 is another colt by Stronghold out of Sweet Virginia by Casey Tibbs. He was sold to Glen Puller Racing Stables for R150 000. The colt is the mare’s second produce. This is another exceptional family, including the recent Sansui Summer Cup Grade 1 winner Dancewiththedevil, her half-brother and sire War Lord, Smart As Paint, Mighty Doll and sires Bizet and Modern Beat.

Yellow Star Stud sold Lot 215 for R100 000 to Burwell Stud. This unnamed colt by Kildonan out of National Feature by National Assembly boasts an exceptional Argentinian dam-line, with the family including Eventuail, Empress Club, sire Elusive Fort, Ecurie, Emerald Beauty and Escoleta Fitz. National Feature herself is a 3-time winner and placed 13 times.
