Horses associated with KZN resident farms and stallions came away from Saturday night’s Highveld Feature Season Awards ceremony with three awards.

The daughter of King Of Kings, King’s Temptress, won Champion Two Year Old filly, an outstanding achievement for her debut win in the Grade 2 SA Fillies Nursery.

Rumour has it that she has allegedly changed hands for a seven-figure sum following her scintilating win – not bad considering she was a R70 000 yearling purchase. She has been entered into the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship to be run 26 May at Scottsville under jockey Karis Teetan and she is now trained by Kumaran Naidoo.

The Mouseketeer, bred by Bush Hill Stud.

Champion Sand Specialist went to the Bush Hill-bred The Mouseketeer – winner of the Grade 2 Emerald Cup last year. The son of Kahal bred by Warwick and Karin Render has had six wins to date including the KZN Breeders 1600 (now known as the KZN Breeders Million Mile) last year at Clairwood, as well as the Grade 3 August Stakes, his only start on the sand prior to the Emerald Cup which he won.

Out of the mare Look Sharp by Northern Guest, The Mouseketeer is partly owned by Super Sport personality Neil Andrews and was a R200 000 National Yearling Sale graduate.

Summerhill Stud.

Seven-time consecutive champion breeders, Summerhill Stud, must be congratulated on yet another wonderful achievement for taking home the award for Champion Breeder. They have bred the likes of recent winners Pierre Jourdan and Smanjemanje, who were nominated in categories over the course of the evening and of course, for importing and raising the great mare Igugu(AUS).

Champion Jockey went to Anthony Delpech, Champion Trainer to Mike de Kock while Champion Apprentice Jockey went to Nooresh Juglall.

Well done to the breeders and connections involved.
