Lot 195 from Bush Hill Stud, an outstanding black colt by Fort Beluga out of Rambo Dancer/Badger Land mare Done Roamin’, named Cedar Wood, sold to Sean Tarry for R100 000. The dam is a winner and this is her first foal. This is the damline of Argyle Arms, Gun Drift, and Naan Khataay.

Clifton Stud sold a lovely big colt by The Sheik (Al Mufti) for R90 000. Lot 18 named River Waltz is out of a Northern Guest/Del Sarto mare. He is a half-brother to Al Mufti gelding Reign And Rule, a 4-time winner. This is the family of Hawthorn and Forest Ivory, a dual Gr 3 winner by Al Mufti. He sold to Mr G Terzi.

The TBA website reports on yesterday’s sales results: “There were some positive statistics to be taken out of proceedings on day one of the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale. The aggregate rose by 11% from last year’s total of R10 815 000 to R11 955 000 in 2013. Remarkably, the median rose by nearly 30% – climbing from R42 500 to R55 000 this year.

“Average prices also showed a healthy rise, jumping an impressive 22% from last year’s average of R66 759 to R81 884. This was a most encouraging start, given a tough economic climate, as well as a potentially stronger line up tomorrow.

“There was a 73% clearance rate down on last year’s tally by 16 lots. This year, 146 horses found new homes, as opposed to 162 in 2012.”

The sale continues today at 1pm where Lots 201 to 358 will be sold. Keep an eye on our KZN Breeders Facebook page for updates and photos.
