“It was a great weekend in Singapore for the Bush Hill sires, Kahal and King’s Chapel. Their sons Coronet Peak and Boundless Glory both won at Kranji on Friday and Sunday respectively. Coronet Peak, who scored in a class 4 handicap over 1100m, was landing his third victory in Singapore. The son of Kahal was a R500 000 buy at the 2009 National Sale.

Boundless Glory, by King’s Chapel, landed Sunday’s Goodwill Stakes, a contest over 1200m by a head from Huka Falls. A talented performer, Boundless Glory has now won or been second 16 times during his Singapore stint. Sunday’s win was the gelding’s ninth success in Singapore.

While Kahal stands for a fee of R50 000, former New Zealand Horse of the Year, King’s Chapel, has a 2013 fee of R15 000.”

There was then a whole lot of local action from Toreador to supplement this with him continuing his fantastic run of winners for this season with three more over the weekend, starting with a double on Friday. First off the Dorrie Sham trained Two Gun Kid recorded his sixth win at Fairview over 1600m. He was followed that evening by the very promising Prince Jazeem winning again making it five wins from eight starts for this smart gelding, with the last three in a row. This Sean Tarry trained son of Toreador’s certainly seems to have a bright future. Sunday saw the James Goodman trained Picador winning at Clairwood for the international jockey’s team in the jockey’s challenge.

Just to reiterate how well Toreador is doing at the moment these three wins have pushed him further up the sires logs. On percentage wins to runs he is now second only to Captain Al. This point is further highlighted if one looks at the sires log by number of wins for this season where he holds 8th position with all of those above him having had at least forty more runners than he has had. Incredible value at only R 15 000 service fee.

We would like to take this opportunity to also pass on congratulations to all those who had nominees and to the ultimate winners at the annual KZN Breeders awards dinner at Bellwood Cottages on Saturday evening. As always it was a well organised and very enjoyable evening for all and our thanks must go to the breeders committee for their organisation and effort put into the event and of course to Candiese Marnewick for all her work on behalf of the KZN Breeders Club.

Kahal was very well represented and his progeny secured no less than seven awards with his daughter Festival Of Fire taking the ultimate prize of Horse Of The Year. Congratulations to Chris Saunders and Fili Bowles on all the of this filly’s achievements. Well done to the other breeders of Kahal’s nominees being Summerhill, Kjell Foundation, and Bellwood Stud. Again highlighting what he has meant to breeders in this province and it was little wonder he was again named Stallion Of The Year.

The Outstanding Middle Distance Female category was an interesting one where the four nominees were Festival Of Fire (Kahal) , Checcetti (Kahal), Enchanted Kingdom (Kahal) and Las Ramblas (Toreador).

To add to the evening’s successes for us Seal who was bred and raised at Bush Hill Stud on behalf of Dr Ian Heyns took home the title of Champion Stayer and Champion Older Male. Our congratulations to Ian, trainer Gavin van Zyl and owner Mr Grant Douglas.

Kahal has since had a winners in Zimbabwe and Mauritius with the likes of King Kahal, Constellation and locally Sudden Surprise, and Toreador has followed suit with the likes of Kingdom’s Key in Mauritius, and Picador at Clairwood.
