Kildonan – Four Winners From Seven Runners!
Kildonan – Four Winners From Seven Runners! |
Kildonan has started his started his stud career with clear parallels to his brilliant racing career – with sheer excellence. A phenomenally talented racehorse who won his first four starts consecutively by a combined eight lengths (his third start winning the Gr 1 Premiers) his progeny have made the country sit up and take notice.
Koos De Klerk of Yellow Star Stud is very excited about the young stallion’s prospects and points out that, although Kildonan still holds the record for the Gr 1 Golden Horse Sprint over 1200m, finishing in a blistering 67 seconds from Mythical Flight by a quarter of a length (and a time not bettered by the great JJ The Jet Plane), he also finished less than five lengths off Hunting Tower in the Vodacom Durban July over 2200m in the same year – a big ask for a sprinting specialist and an amazing achievement for any racehorse. Less than a month later, Kildonan went on to finish a close second over 1800m in the Gr 1 Champions Cup. This is a clear statement of Kildonan’s grit, bravery and determination, which he seems to be passing onto his progeny. He is also a stallion with a superbly gentle temperament.

From just seven runners and 17 runs in total, Kildonan has now produced four winners – namely Tribute To Kylie (two wins), Natural, Fire The Rocket (previously named Rigtersveld) and Pula. Fire The Rocket is bred by Yellow Star Stud, and has now won and placed from all three of his starts, trained by Doug Campbell who holds the colt in high regard.
Lesley Strong is knocking on the door for a win, having placed in six of seven outings, and finishing second by a head in Turffontein.
Not only does Kildonan now possess a 57% runners to winners percentage, but his place percentage is 70%. From nine horses sold in 2013 through the TBA sales – the Nationals, KZN and Ready To Run Sale, the Kildonan’s reached an impressive average of R102 000 per horse sold – taking into consideration his service fee is just R10 000 live foal, he is a serious stallion for both buyers and breeders to consider.
An impressive individual by Rich Man’s Gold out of Philip’s best performer Cathay Firth, Kildonan will be one to watch as Champion Season draws closer.
