Kalil Three Winners One Week
Gerald and Karen Kalil enjoyed a tremendous week, breeding three winners and owning another three individually and in partnerships.
Gerald has been breeding horses since the early 90’s, with their first mare being Kunnenburg on Faan Botha’s farm in Stoffberg near Middelburg. After that, they have stood mares in KZN with the likes of the late Anne Woodham at Aldora Stud, and Blacklisted at Mike and Tanya’s Macrath Farm and Summerhill Stud.
They currently stand their mares at Summerhill Equestrian, Blue Sky Thoroughbreds with Bruce Le Roux and Tinus Gericke and Riverton in the Cape. Amongst the best they have bred are Daring Diva, Waiting For Change and Ad Altisima, as well as Darkest Hour by Await The Dawn.
Their mare Delightfull Diva (The Sheik) in particular has been a special one, with her daughter Daring Diva producing more winners to further the family for Gerald Kalil.
The first to kick off was Kaygee’s Delight, by in form sire Rabada, out of Delightfull Diva. Unsold at the KZN Yearling Sale, Kaygee’s Delight has four runs for a win and two places, trained by Garth Puller for the Kalil’s. Kaygee’s Delight is a half sister to Ruffian Listed winner Daring Diva, and the dam has produced six winners to date.
The next to follow at Hollywoodbets Greyville was Doctor’s Orders, a daughter of Capetown Noir out of Dream Model by Pissaro. Trained by Wayne Badenhorst and ridden by log leading Muzi Yeni for owners Messrs Thaver, Gangiah and Govender, she has won and placed three times.
Daring Act, a son of Act Of War out of Daring Diva by King Of Kings, has been knocking on the door for a win after placing several times, winning for trainer Robyn Klaasen-Peter and owner Mr S Pooe.
The Kalil family have enjoyed much success in racing, including Gr1 winner Pearl Of Asia.
Gerald is on 50% winners to runners for the season.
