Visionaire achieved a 1-2 in the 11th race on J&B Met day, when the Joey Ramsden-trained Mr Wise Guy galloped to a near two length victory from Vilakazi, a son of Visionaire and half-brother to Hong Kong winner, Mighty Emperor.
ANC Treasurer-General Dr Zweli Mkhize had his first winner on Friday evening when KZN-bred Ntokazi (meaning lady in Zulu) galloped to victory by half a length from the stable of Duncan Howells.
KZN has recently had a number of winners at Kenilworth from both Bush Hill and Rathmor Stud, whilst Visionaire’s last three runners have all been winners. They are all headed up by Bush Hill Stud’s impressive Trippi colt who galloped to smashing eight length victory yesterday, descending from the immediate family of Gr1 winners Zirconeum and Stellite.
Solskjaer, a former Summerhill sire, has been exported to Ireland for stud duties at Coolagown Stud, and has settled in well after arriving three weeks ago.
The filly named Malher De Branco (formerly Yoruba) is owned by Mr B P Finch, Mrs K Finch & Ridgemont Stud (Nom: Mr Craig Carey), and is Visionaire’s most expensive yearling to date – she sold for R1,4million at the 2014 National Yearling Sale, bred and consigned by Summerhill Stud.
Summerhill’s young bay speed machine Ato, a son of Royal Academy out of a mare that has produced 100% winners to runners – Another Legend(USA) by Lyphard’s Wish – has had his first foals arrive this season at Summerhill.
Giant’s Causeway, the sire of Scott Bros’ sire Eightfold Path and the now deceased Await The Dawn from Summerhill Stud, produced the sales topper at Keeneland last night when Take Charge Brandi sold for $6 million. Eightfold Path and Await The Dawn will have their first crop of yearlings on offer in 2016.
