KZN Breeders Golf Day Success

The KZN Breeders inaugural Golf Day was held under beautiful warm weather (27 degrees) – so typical of Durban in winter – at the Beachwood Country Club yesterday.

The four balls filled quickly after the initial announcement and it was encouraging to see South Africa’s leading owners, trainers and jockeys on the day including Mike Bass, Mike De Kock, Sean Tarry, Kevin Shea, Anthony Delpech, Gavin Van Zyl, Glen Kotzen, Tony Rivalland, Graeme Hawkins of Gold Circle, Tom Callaghan of Bloodstock South Africa who joined us on his birthday, journalist David Thistleton, Michael Roberts, veterinarian Manfred Rohwer, Herman Brown Jr, Dees Dayanand of Tellytrack, Phil Georgiou and Paul Lafferty amongst the many prominent people in the horse-racing industry who kindly joined us.

KZN Breeders’ who played included four-balls from Yellow Star Stud (chairman Koos de Klerk), Spring Valley Stud (Bruce le Roux), Bush Hill Stud (Warwick Render), Rathmor Stud (Bradley and Devon McHardy), as well as Anton Proctor and Alan Sutherland.

The prizes amounted to over R100 000 in total with prizes going for the first 16 four-balls. Closest to the pin for the second hole was Kevin Petzer, seventh Gary Smith, 12th Gary Holloway and the 18th to trainer Wayne Badenhorst. Longest drive went to Bradley McHardy of Rathmor Stud.

The winning four ball with a score of 86 went to Robbie Saville’s four-ball, second was Tony Rivalland’s four-ball, and third Kevin Petzer’s four-ball, all players from the first three winning four-balls each received R5000 vouchers redeemable against KZN-bred yearlings at the upcoming Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale on 5 and 6 July.

Ashley Rushton won the Golf Resorts auction, with David Raper winning the King’s Chapel stallion service, as well a Midlands Saddle & Trout voucher for a weekend away and taking home The Sharks hamper. Tracy Olivier won the auction for three separate vouchers to the Midlands Saddle & Trout.
