BSA: Clifton Stud Offer Nine At 2018 Nationals

Clifton Stud, breeders of one this season’s top fillies in Covered In Snow, will be represented by nine yearlings at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale next month.

Crusade, sire of Covered In Snow, has two colts in the draft –Star Effect (Lot 285) is a half-brother to 7 winners headed by Listed Banyana Hcp winner Sapphire Ring, while Double Espresso (Lot 393) is out of Zimbabwe Derby winner Demitasse, a daughter of leading broodmare sire Horse Chestnut.

The farm also offers a colt from the first local crop of G1 winner and proven G1 sire Flower Alley. Backstreet Boss (Lot 73) is a colt whose dam is a winning own sister to Horse Of The Year and seven times champion sire Jet Master.

Other young sires represented in the draft include the Equus Champions CapetownNoir and Soft Falling Rain. Triple G1 winner Capetown Noir’s colt Capetown Affair (Lot 247) is a ½ brother to 3 winners including Derby Trial third Dante’s Legacy and is out of a half-sister to G1 winning sprinter O Caesour.

Brilliant globetrotting champion Soft Falling Rain has a colt and filly in the draft. His daughter Montreal Mist (Lot 148) is out of Var’s stakes winning daughter Estrel, while Soft Falling Rain colt Chaumaso (Lot 311) is out of a five time winning daughter of Var, now an emerging broodmare sire in his own right.

Leading first crop sire Master Of My Fate has a striking colt, by the name of Arrownova, on offer. This colt (Lot 344) is a ½ brother to 2 winners including multiple G2 winner Bezanova (who banked nearly R2 million in prize money) and he is inbred to the top broodmare Soho Secret.

Dynasty’s blue blooded triple G1 winner Jackson has two on offer –a filly (Lot 256) out of a stakes placed ½ sister to top class 2yo Midnight Serenade, and a colt (Lot 258) out of a stakes placed four time winner, whose relatives include Horse Of The Year and four time G1 winner Legislate. The latter, like Jackson, is a son of Dynasty.

Peter and Jenny Blyth of Clifton Stud have bred numerous top class athletes over the years, with their graduates including the recently deceased July winning Horse Of The Year Classic Flag as well as the likes of G2 Charity Mile winner Bezanova and Covered In Snow.

The latter, the first stakes winner for her Middle Park Stakes winning sire Crusade, has won four of five starts with her wins including both the Listed Swallow Stakes and Bauhinia Handicap.

The Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale will, once again, take place at the TBA complex in Germiston and is due to get underway at 11:30 on Tuesday, April 24th.
