Yellow Star Stud have announced the sad passing of Klawervlei-owned Lion Tamer, who fatally injured himself prior to covering a mare.

A big horse with a beautiful head, and a big kind eye that matched his heart and temperament, Lion Tamer had produced the likes of Gr1 and Gr2 second placed stayer Lions Emblem, Stakes Placed Leeuloop Jet and Gr3 placed Cayenne, the latter bred by Yellow Star Stud.

Other notable horses from the small book of mares he covered each year were 3A Racing Syndicate’s first winner Trix Of The Trade, Gr1 performed Lady De Winter, and Mauritian winner Mighty Lion.

The son of Western Winter was the first of his sire to be represented in KZN, and was relocated from Avalon Stud to Yellow Star Stud with the closure of Avalon.

Standing at 16hh out of Blushing Dove by Comic Blush, Lion Tamer is a six-time winner and ran second in the Gr2 Greyville 1900, Gr1 J&B Met, Gr1 Summer Cup and Gr2 Emerald Cup – showing what a versatile sort he is – from ages three to five. He earned R1,1 million at the track in stakes.

His dam-line includes the likes of Black Rod, an 8-time winner including two Gr3 races, and Gr3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner The Badger – as well as Le Deportista, Gr2 JB McIntosh Classic winner.

Our condolences to Yellow Star Stud and Klawervlei Stud.
