Summerhill Stud, who topped South Africa’s Breeders List for ten seasons running, have been enjoying another superb season in 2017-2018. The KZN powerhouse are responsible for breeding this season’s Triple Tiara hope Takingthepeace, as well as this season’s feature race winners Champagne Haze (Tommy Hotspur Handicap) and The Thinker (The Merchants).

Once again, Mick Goss and his team have a very strong draft on offer at the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. Summerhill’s 15 strong draft includes yearlings by the likes of Capetown Noir, Duke Of Marmalade, Linngari and Takingthepeace’s sire Visionaire.

Star of the Summerhill draft has to be The Sandwich Man (Lot 467). The son of Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade is a half-brother to none other than current three-year-old sensation Takingthepeace. The latter is on the verge of creating history, having won the first two legs of the Triple Tiara and already has earnings of over R1.4 million to her credit.

Takingthepeace’s G1 winning sire Visionaire has eight in the draft, including a colt out of Fillies Guineas winner Fisani (Lot 152), a colt out of a G3 placed daughter of Var (Lot 278), a filly out of Gerald Rosenberg winner Checcetti (Lot 378), and a filly from the same family as Kentucky Derby winner Go For Gin (Lot 497).

Resident sire Capetown Noir (who shares his sire Western Winter with hot stallion What A Winter) has five members of his first crop in the Summerhill draft. The former Equus Champion has five cracking colts in the draft, including a half-brother to Gold Bowl winner Winning Leap (Lot 288), a half-brother to short-lived stakes performer Waka Waka (Lot 360), a colt whose winning dam is a half-sister to Fillies Guineas winner Fisani (Lot 424), and a half-brother to the very smart Flamboyant Stakes runner up Lala (Lot 428).

Capetown Noir, the product of two champions, is also sire of Doublethink, a colt out of G3 Pretty Polly winner Oochee Agent (Lot 509).

Multiple G1 winner Linngari, whose Scat Daddy relative topped the recent Craven Breeze Up Sale,  also stands at Summerhill, and his son Kilkenny (Lot 482) hails from the same family as international group winners  CD Europe, D’ Anjou and Truth Or Dare.
