Spring Valley Stud’s Bruce Le Roux and long time Director of the KZN Breeders Club, has been elected as Chairman. Former Chairman Lee Scribante (of Piemonte Stud) has been appointed as Vice Chairman, whilst breeder and racehorse owner Ted Hughes has been inducted as a Director.

Bruce Le Roux has bred several brilliant horses in his career, including the likes of Vodacom Durban July winner Dunford, To And Fro, Bedloe’s Island, Buy And Sell, Count The Money, Indiscreet Fantasy, Personal Fantasy, Malinga, Superior Service, Silver Fantasy, Silver Age, Grisham, King Of Torts and recently London Call.

Bruce also races several horses and owns Gr2 winning Var filly, A Woman’s Way, in partnership with Tinus Gericke.

Ted Hughes, who lives in Hillcrest and owns a trucking company called Hughcor.

As a teenager Ted went to Millfield School in England on a polo scholarship and was under Capt. Roy Hern FIH for 5 years, (the father of Major Dick Hern and mentor to Ian Balding – both of whom trained for the Queen and won the Derby ).

He rode under rules as an amateur and played polo for 15 years. Ted also went into breeding and trained his own point to pointers, as well as hunting with two packs for many years, which Ted says “is a normal thing if one is involved in National Hunt.”

Ted made his way to South Africa in 1980 and suddenly had to adapt to racing, “where there are no obstacles in the way! Had my first home bred winner with a Volcanic horse in 1992 and have been blessed to have many winners over the years but more importantly to have known a lot of wonderful people in racing and breeding. My wife Ruth has been a pillar of strength and support with my passion for horses.”

Congratulations to Bruce and Ted and thank you to our former Chairman Lee Scribante for his hard work over the past two years, as well as to Keith Russon and Peter Blyth who both resigned as Directors during the past year. Their hard work and assistance in all matters pertaining to the KZN Breeders Club is sincerely appreciated.

The KZN Breeders Club Board consists of the following Directors:

Koos de Klerk, Ted Hughes, Bruce Le Roux (Chairman), Roy Moodley, Linda Norval, Anton Procter, Warwick Render and Lee Scribante (Vice-Chairman).
