An exciting KZN double took place at Kenilworth yesterday, with two smart horses crossing the finish line in first place.

The first is Rathmor’s well-bred colt Pata Pata, a son of Var out of African Love by Fantastic Light. His well related dam, African Love, was head hunted with the purpose of bolstering Noble Tune’s book – her Noble Tune yearling sold for R100 000 off the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale, named I Write The Songs.

African Love’s first foal by Captain Al sold for six figures at the CTS Ready To Run Sale and is as yet unraced.

Owned by Mario Ferreira and trained by Brett Crawford, Pata Pata has placed in all three of his previous starts, and broke his maiden by half a length over 1000m. African Love has a blue blooded pedigree which includes the brilliant Australian racemare Bounding – a half-sister to the dam of African Love.

New Zealand Gr1 winner Bounding by Lonhro, sold as a broodmare prospect to Stonestreet Farm for A$1,900,000 at the 2016 June Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. Bounding is residing at Stonestreet Farm and will foal her first to Curlin this season.

Rathmor’s fillies are flying, with recent places by Jaunita, Miziara and Shandy.

The second to impress on the day is Aldora Stud bred and owned Franking, a daughter of King Of Kings out of Bennie andthe Jets by Jet Master.

The three year old filly stunned with a six length victory in the last of the day over 2000m for trainer Glen Kotzen. It is the second win in a row for Franking, previously over 1600m and winning on that occasion by over two lengths.

Gr3 placed Bennie Andthe Jets, is the dam of Gr3 placed Mogok Master, a two time winner who placed four times.

Well done to all concerned.
