After passing through the TBA National 2YO Sale as unsold in 2013, the Scott Bros’ Talktothestars has been knocking on the door for a big win and it came in the Gr2 Senor Santa Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday, his eighth career win to date. He has a Mogok half-brother coming up at the National Yearling Sale, a full brother to two winners.

Owned and trained by Coenie De Beer, the son of Overlord out of Spaceship mare Tellittothestars finished three and half lengths off in Kenilworth in two Gr2 races, to Triptique and Lanner Falcon. He then went on to finish just over a length off in fifth in a Gr1 to Gulf Storm.

His jockey Brandon Lerena, who thought he had gone a touch early, rode a cracker and relaxed Talktothestars a few lengths off as Mod Barley cut out the gallop. At the 250m marker the favourite Lazer Star came out of the pack with Talktothestars and the two went to the line as one.

The De Beer galloper got the verdict by a head in a time of 66,31 secs.

Talktothestars is a son of one-time record-breaking Aussie yearling Overlord, himself a son of world champion sire and successful sire-of-sires Danehill, out of a half sister to Royal Academy.

Overlord has been finding form of late, particularly on the polytrack surfaces.

His recent winners include Promissory, Time Marches On, Your Worship, and Talktothestars full sister who appears to following in her big brothers footsteps – the aptly named Lady Starlett, who has now won twice and placed three times from seven starts for Coenie De Beer.

Tellittothestars has a lovely Eightfold Path colt at foot this year. Tellittothestars has produced four winners from five runners to date, and has Lot 375 on sale by Mogok at the upcoming National Yearling Sale, named to Tellittothegods.
Incredibly, the mares four winners have produced 16 wins between them all. The yearling is a full brother to two winning fillies, with six wins between them.
Purchased privately for R40 000, Talktothestars has won 8 races with 4 places from 21 stars for stakes of R694 475.
Well done to all concerned.
