Rathmor Stud have had their first foals arriving for the season, including progeny of Miesque’s Approval, first season sire King’s Chapel, Ravishing and resident stallion Strategic News.

Water Berry has produced a big, flashy dark bay colt by Miesque’s Approval this season. An impeccably bred mare by Fort Wood out of Lily’s Felice, she is a full-sister to Equus Champion Male Stayer in 2005, Saddlewood. Water Berry had four wins at the track up to 2200m and placed nine times.

She has produced four runners and three winners to date, including Easter Handicap Listed winner River Lodge, with Cut And Thrust being a two-time winner, and Tiger’s Retreat winning twice and placing from all his starts.

Her third dam is Lily, one of the best dam-lines in the country which has produced plenty of Bold Black Type such as Fort Defiance and Strelitzia (both by Fort Wood), sire Prince Of War, Bold Thatch, Royal Messenger, Geordoba, sire Ravishing, Red Badge, The Plunderer, Vega and Villandry.

The second foal is out of Cookie Delux by Strategic News, a smart chestnut colt who strongly resembles his sire. Cookie Delux is by champion sire Jet Master, from his first crop of foals he produced. She is herself out of Sugar Cookie by Dancing Champ and placed five times at the track.

She descends from the dam-line of Candycorn – which sees numerous Bold Black Type in this pedigree. Cookie Delux is a half-sister to Sugar Biscuit, a five-time winner including the Gr 3 Camargue Stud Handicap.

Under the third dam (Corn), we see the likes of Flaming Corn, Storm Crossing, Meadow Magic, Clock The Rock, Irish Flame (Equus Champion Three Year Old Colt and Horse Of The Year 2010) and Gr 2 Colorado King Stake winner Vertical Takeoff.

Other descendants include the stand-outs include Lions Blood, Miss Doreet, ARCSA Champion Two Year Old Colt Smackeroo and sire Chief Warden.

Irresistible, by National Emblem out of The Seventh Star by Elliodor, she has produced her first foal, a lovely chestnut colt by first South African season sire, King’s Chapel(AUS).

Irresistable won three times and placed seven times.

Her dam, The Seventh Star, has produced another winner by Kahal named Sparkle.

Another strong dam-line with plenty of Bold Black Type and too many to mention, the stand-outs of this family include Alpha Centauri, ARCSA Champion Two Year Old Colt Gold Flier, Equus Champion Older Male Sprinter Successful Bidder, Trust Antonia, Pedlar and Astropower and Therealslimshady.

Dark Eyed Beauty (Kefaah – Tang Dynasty by Secret Prospector), has produced a large, good-looking chestnut Ravishing colt this season.

Dark Eyed Beauty is a five-time winner and she placed 23 times. She has produced two runners, one of them named Handsome Fellow has since placed.

Her second dam is a Chilean mare named Antangada, a Grade 1 winner who has produced four winners from all her foals.

Under the fourth dam, there are seven Bold Black Type winners including two at Grade 1 level. The other is Truf Truf(CHI), who had 10 wins in Chile and went onto win 13 times in the USA including a number of Listed wins.

Gypsy Queen, the dam of Gypsy’s Warning and KZN Breeders Broodmare Of The Year for 2011, will be foaling to Kahal this year while Perakeen, the dam of the white colt Gran Blanco, is due to foal to Miesque’s Approval. Perakeen has been booked to Kahal again for the coming season.
