| |
This time as a paternal grandsire, Spectrum had a bay colt sell at the Karaka Select Yearling Sale for a sale-topping $525 000.
The colt sold as Lot 610, a son of Tartan Bearer(IRE).
Tartan Bearer [pictured right], an eye-catching chestnut by Spectrum out of Highland Gift by Generous - was trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ran second in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, the Prince Of Wales Stakes and the Vodafone Derby.
He won the Gr3 Gordon Richards Stakes and the Gr2 Dante Stakes, and finished third in the Gr1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby. Tartan Bearer is also a full-brother to Gr1 producing Golan.
Phillip Stokes from South Australia purchased the colt, after seeing off strong competition Phillip purchased the colt for Hong Kong based businessman Thomas Li.
The colt is the third foal of Galileo mare Pink Pier and is a half brother to 2014 Rosehill Guineas runner-up Thunder Fantasy. It is also the female line of Rebecca Sharp.
His purchase price of $525,000 is record for the select sale that was previously set in 2008 when a Scaredee Cat colt sold for $300,000.
Tartan Bearer's progeny will be two year olds this year.
Spectrum [pictured right] was also recently in the news when his grand-daughter Up, a half-sister to Gr1 producing and now Sire Of Sires Dutch Art, sold for $2.2million at Keeneland in January.
Spectrum's lifetime stats show him as being the sire of 1346 progeny to race, 792 winners (58.0%), with earnings of over $59 million, 42 stakes winners, 53 stakes placegetters.
Spectrum, now 23 years old and still on active stud duty, stands at Yellow Star Stud.
