NZ Gr3 Win For Broodmare Sire St Petersburg
| |
At Trentham in New Zealand, star three year old filly Platinum Witness (California Dane-Chartreuse, by St. Petersburg) scored by two lengths for trainer Lisa Latta in the NZ$70,000 Gr3 Desert Gold Stakes over 1600m for three year old fillies.
She went on to win well over fellow fillies Attention Seeker and Exquisite Jewel.
Platinum Witness [pictured above] was purchased for NZ$55,000 by Latta on behalf of long-time stable clients Lincoln Farms and Neville McAlister at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Monovale Farm.
She took her record to three wins (including the Gr1 NZ 1,000 Guineas & Listed Canterbury Stakes) and five placings (including the Listed Wanganui Guineas) from 11 starts for NZ$297,900 earnings.
Trainer Lisa Latta will make a decision on Platinum Witness' Gr1 future after the leading filly steps out at Te Rapa next month, reports NZ Racing Desk. "She holds nominations for the Derby and the Oaks and I don't know yet which it will be, it could be both," the Awapuni trainer said. "She'll head to the Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic first and we'll sort it out after that."
St Petersburg, the only son of Nureyev at stud in South Africa, stands at Summerhill Stud. His lifetime record states that he is the sire of 197 progeny to race, produced 101 winners (51.0%) with earnings of over $7.5 million, five of them Stakes winners. His most successful to date has been Solzhenitsyn, a 13-time winner including the Gr1 Toorak Handicap, and placing in two other Gr1's amongst other Group placings.
Out of the mare Miss Bold Appeal by Valid Appeal, St Petersburg is a half-brother to Triple Gr 1 winner in the USA, Jersey Girl as well as 8-time winner Partition and sire Bold Expectation in Australia. He belongs to the immediate family of Two Year Old USA Champion sire Foolish Pleasure, Beldale Lustre, Valid Expecations and Little Expectations.
St Petersburg won three races In Australia at age 3, 1000-1200m and placed twice. His wins include the Gr 3 VRC Chivas Regal Stakes (1200m) and the SAJC Fraar Handicap (1000m). He placed fourth in the Gr 1 VRC Lightening Stakes (1000m) and Gr2 Ascot Vale Stakes (1200m) before a tendon injury prematurely ended his racing career.
The dam of Platinum Witness, Chartreuse, had three wins at two over 1200m - all Listed races. St Petersburg's South African success includes Gr3 placed Blushing Peter, whilst 9-time winning Fantasticprivilege, a Stakes winner, continues to fly the flag in Macau.
Glinka [pictured right], out of Fard mare Hat Trick, recently won at Scottsville over 1400m.
Bred and raced by Tmen Stables and trained by Robbie Hill, the three year old colt has won and placed from all of five of his starts at Clairwood, Scottsville and Greyville.
St Petersburg stood for a fee of R8000 in 2014.
