KZN Sires Well Represented On Val De Vie Yearling Sale
| |
The Val De Vie Yearling Sale takes place at the beautiful Val De Vie Estate in Franschoek, an hour outside of Cape Town, on Sunday 22 February.
It is pleasing to see a number of KZN Sires represented at the sale, amongst them will be the first yearling to be sold by Summerhill's resident sire Golden Sword, as well as Toreador, Strategic News, Mogok and Kildonan.
Golden Sword is the only son of the recently deceased High Chapparal at stud in South Africa.
Golden Sword broke the track record at Meydan when winning over 2000m and went on to win one of Britain’s major Derby preps, the Gr3 Chester Vase, finishing second in the Irish Derby and running the mighty Sea The Stars to within two lengths, finishing fifth in the Epsom Derby.
From one the greatest families in the stud book - the likes of classic winning fillies Alexandrova and Chicquita (both, like Golden Sword, descendants of the great Sadler’s Wells), as well as former legendary SA sire Royal Prerogative and Dolpour - the latter being the broodmare sire of The Apache.
Bush Hill's resident son of Danehill, Toreador, needs little introduction and his progeny are always enthusiastically received at sales. The most successful son of Danehill to stand his career in South Africa, Toreador has been back in the news once more with his talented and as yet unbeaten daughter Lazer Star, a Gr3 and Listed winner from just four starts.
He is the sire of the likes of Gr1 winning Link Man and multiple Group winners Deliver The Power, Jackodore, She's A Stunner and Las Ramblas.
Gr1 Summer Cup winner Strategic News, a resident sire at Rathmor Stud, has just five runners from his first crop on the tracks. Another first for South Africa, Strategic News is the only son of Australian sire Strategic to stand in South Africa. His progeny have won and placed six times between them, with 3YO colt Strategic's Pride only out of the placings once. He sold for R160 000 at the 2013 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale.
Mogok who stands at Scott Bros, is another sire that needs little introduction and one of the few stallions in South Africa to have achieved International Gr1 winners and places with the likes of Gypsy's Warning and The Apache - the latter who stood his first season at Rosedene Stud in the Cape last year.
Mogok has produced the likes of Gr1 winner Orbison, Wild One, Meadow Magic, Al Canina and King Of Torts.
Kildonan stands at Yellow Star Stud and hitting a purple patch. The son of Rich Man's Gold has already produced the likes of Gr2 winner Rosier, voted Cape Racing Award's Juvenile Filly Of The Year. His recent winners include Mike De Kock owned and trained Scots Snog and Beach Goddess, who have each won twice in the last month, with Donan and Yellow Star-bred Fire The Rocket placing consistently. His other multiple winners include Tribute To Kyle, Lesley Strong and Wee Doch 'n Dorris.
