First Winner For Sire Al Miqdaam
| |
Roy Moodley's young stallion standing at his breeding operation in the KZN Midlands, a son of Danehill named Al Miqdaam, had his first winner on Friday at Clairwood in the first race under jockey Brandon Lerena.
The three year old chestnut gelding named Al Ciberano, bred by Robert Smith, not only romped to a victory over 1100m - but also set a new Class record in the process.
Trained by Tony Rivalland and who also owns a share in the horse along with breeder Robert Smith and Messrs G N Cumming, I Deetlefs and I M & M G Horsfield, Al Ciberano won very comfortably by a length after a six month lay-off after his debut run - where he finished fourth at Clairwood over 1400m under MJ Odendaal. Tony has advised on his Facebook account that the gelding is still looking for further.
Al Ciberano is out of Carry It Far by Muhtafal. The mare is herself a winner, and this is her first foal. She is herself out of a Northern Guest/The Minstrel mare Princess Isis and this is the immediate damline of sires Salmon Leap, King's Lake and Glenstal. She has since produced a two year old by Atso, and another chestnut colt by Al Miqdaam in 2012.
Trained by Mike De Kock and owned by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum during his racing career, Australian import Al Miqdaam placed from just a few starts. He is out of a Don't Say Halo mare named St Clemens Belle, with Al Ciberano being the first of two runners for the young sire.
Congratulations to all the winning connections and breeders Robert Smith and Roy Moodley.
