Unbeaten Toreador Filly Wins Swallow Stakes Listed
| |
The Ormond Ferraris-trained Gr3 Magnolia Handicap winner Lazer Star retained her unbeaten record with a facile win in Saturday’s R150 000 Listed Swallow Stakes run over the Turffontein 1160m straight.
The daughter of Toreador was given an armchair ride by Weichong Marwing and kept things in the family as she runs in the red and blue silks of his wife, Anneli.
The original field of ten scratched down to only eight runners and the topweighted Lazer Star was backed into prohibitive odds-on at the exclusion of the rest.
The race was a formality as she cruised all the way and showed vastly superior speed.
She won in a decent time of 66,94 secs and beat Silver Class by 3,50 lengths with By Jove in third, in addition giving the second horse a 3kg weight beating.
Lazer Star maintained her 100% record from her four runs and took her earnings to R359 375.
She was bred by the Tawny Syndicate and is by Toreador out of the three-time winning Sri Pekan mare, Empress Of Ozz.
Lazer Star went through the National Yearling Sale ring where she sold for R350 000.
Another mare by Toreador won on the same race day over 1800m, the third win for Imperial Empress. Out of a Scuffleburg mare Commonwealth, she has also placed 11 times previously for owner and trainer Mr Craig Mayhew.
The sire of Champion 2yo colt and Gr1 winner Link Man, his other Group winners include Deliver The Power, Jackodore, She's A Stunner, Roc 'n Rose and Las Ramblas. Toreador is the most successful son of Danehill to stand his stud career in South Africa.
