First Stakes Winner For Yellow Star's Kildonan
| |
Kildonan already has his stud career off to a blistering start, and added to it on Friday when his daughter Rosier snatched the R150 000 Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery over the 1200m straight at Fairview.
The Wilgebosdrift-bred and owned filly is out of Australian mare Malmaison by French Deputy.
Clearly a talented filly, the two year old has now won both of her starts - the first at Kenilworth in February by a nose over 1000m.
Trained by Glen Kotzen and ridden by Gareth Wright, Rosier won by a quarter of a length from Cotton Candy (Trippi), Vanishing Sails (Sail From Seattle) and Hollywood Sunset (Lateral) placed behind her respectively on Friday.
A handsome and athletic individual standing at Koos and Lorraine De Klerk's Yellow Star Stud in Mooi River, Kildonan still holds the record for the Gr 1 Golden Horse Sprint over 1200m, finishing in a blistering 67 seconds from Mythical Flight by a quarter of a length (and a time not bettered by the great JJ The Jet Plane), he also finished less than five lengths off Hunting Tower in the Vodacom Durban July over 2200m in the same year - a big ask for a sprinting specialist and an amazing achievement for any racehorse. Less than a month later, Kildonan went on to finish a close second over 1800m in the Gr 1 Champions Cup.
Kildonan's grit, bravery and determination seems to be passing onto his progeny. He is also a stallion with a superbly gentle temperament. Kildonan is by Rich Man's Gold out of Cathay Firth by Philipi.
From just 16 runners, Kildonan has now produced seven winners - including two-time winner Tribute To Kylie.
