King's Chapel Bold Black Type Success As Sire And Broodmare Sire
| |
Bush Hill's resident sire King's Chapel had two classy performances recently - one as a sire in a Listed race in New Zealand, the other as a broodmare sire in an Australian Gr3.
The first saw his great son King Montrose place behind Silver Eclipse in the Pegasus Handicap Listed in New Zealand over 1000m on turf.
King Montrose is a Gr3 winner out of Tights mare Dorrington, and has placed in the Pegasus Listed three times previously.
King Montrose recorded his 12th win this year, proving his soundness and toughness by competing in two Gr1 races and a Gr3 in the space of eight days.
In doing so he emphasised the versatility of King's Chapel's progeny, having won over distances ranging from 1000m up to 2000m. The eight year old bay gelding is a graduate of New Zealand Bloodstock's 2008 Select Yearling Sale, selling for $25 000 and having now won stakes of $232 000 over his career. He has also placed 11 times in total, five of them Stakes races.
In Australia King's Chapel had more success, this time as a Broodmare sire. His Stakes-winning daughter Princess Emmy gained more Bold Black Type, this time as a broodmare, after her two year old daughter Thurlow [pictured right as a yearling] placed second by a neck in the Gr3 Ottawa Stakes at Flemington over 1000m.
Bred by Widden Stud, Thurlow's sire Sebring recently made news as the 2014 breeding partner for the famous Black Caviar.
King's Chapel's weekly overseas race results continue to reflect positively, with another very recent winner in Red King over 1400m in New Zealand and River Fortune in Macau, and Our Molly Malone placing second over the same course and distance.
At the Ready To Run sale held at the TBA complex in Johannesburg at the beginning of November, King's Chapel's outstanding grey daughter named Reigning Wave sold for R170 000 as Lot 114 to Thor Insurance Brokers.
King's Chapel stands at Bush Hill Stud for a service fee of R15 000 this season.
