Gold Circle's owner of the month for March, Alesh Naidoo, is passionate about horses, with 55 horses currently in training. "I love leading in winners, it's such a thrill to lead in your horse," he admits.
As a former punter who limited his involvement to betting, he decided to take the big leap. "I used to take bets but decided to buy some horses and carried on from there," he explains.
"Of my 55 horses in training, my favourite is Dynamic Star, currently in training with Paul Lafferty."
He has horses with numerous trainers, amongst them, Charles Laird, Alastair Gordon, Lowan Denysschen, in JHB with Weiho Mawing, Wallace Tolmay and Gary Alexander.
"My most exciting youngster is Dylan's Promise who will be running at Clairwood on *Sunday, she is a very nice horse that cost almost a R1 million at sales." The filly was consigned and sold by Summerhill Stud at the 2011 Emperor's Palace Ready-To-Run sale. Trained by Charles Laird, she placed in her debut run mid-April.
He has done remarkably well as an owner and attributes his success to integrity. "I like honesty in racing, the trainer has got to be honest with you firstly. If a trainer is honest I will be the first to support him."
As Gold Circle's owner of the month for March, the achievement he hopes to attain is the one that has thus far eluded him. "I want to have a Grade 1 winner," he admits. "I have had two Grade 2 winners, and I want to win a Grade 1. I have numerous horses entered for the Vodacom Durban July race-day, and who knows what will happen."
His first horse and a R400 000 yearling, Mentor, won the Grade 2 Hawaii Stakes, and the Grade 2 Post Merchants in 2008.
He will be looking to increase his string soon at the upcoming Suncoast KZN Yearling Sales 5 to 6 July,
"I will definitely be attending the KZN Yearling Sales at Suncoast this year to buy horses."
KZN Breeders would like to thank Alesh for supporting the industry and congratulations on his winners.
*News update - Dylan's Promise won her race by a length yesterday at Clairwood under Anton Marcus.
