Majmu stamped her authority on Saturday as a force to be reckoned with, after winning the Gr1 Avontuur Estate Fillies Guineas over 1600m easily by two and a half lengths at Kenilworth.

Voted Equus Champion Two Year Filly last season, the grey took home her fifth win from six starts in a glittering career that so far only has Bold Black Type, winning her debut in the Ruffian Stakes Listed and subsequently winning two Gr3's and a Gr2 in the process - only out of the money once when she placed fourth in the Gr2 Joburg Spring Fillies and Mares Challenge.

The KZN connection comes in when the filly by Australia's top sire, Redoute's Choice, has his only son standing at stud in South Africa at Bush Hill Stud.

Redoute's Promise has stood his first season this year, out of the brilliant South African mare Perfect Promise by top broodmare sire Caesour. Redoute’s Promise was sadly unraced due to an injury in training prior to him having his first start.

The third foal produced by Perfect Promise, a Gr1 winner in South Africa, she made history when she won the Gr1 C F Orr Stakes - the first South African bred to win a Gr1 race in Australia. His dam Perfect Promise was winner of eight races from a distance of 1000m up to 1600m.

Her victories locally included the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas, The Diana Stakes Gr3 and the listed Prix du Cap and a second in the Gr1 Majorca Stakes.

Internationally she proved just how good she was; after winning the Gr1 CJ Orr Stakes, she also won the AJC Emancipation Stakes Gr2, and placed second in the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap and the Gr2 Theo Marks Stakes.

Her full sister Irridescence who not only was a local Gr1 winner too, having won the Woolavington Gr1 and the Fillies Classic Gr1, but she also went on to break many Australian hearts when defeating their beloved champion filly Oiuja Board (dam of Australia) in the Gr1 QE II Cup in Hong Kong after winning the Gr 2 Balanchine Stakes in Dubai.

Arrowfield.com.au describe Redoute’s Choice as "an Australian legend, building his legacy through the deeds of his sire sons and broodmare daughters who continue to leave Group One stars of their own.

"Inheriting the crown from his sire Danehill, Redoute’s Choice is the king of Australian Sires. In the last twelve months he has hit new career milestones such as completing an historic Sires' Premiership quinella with his son Snitzel, siring 120 stakes winners, reaching 27 individual Group One winners with World Champion Sprinter Lankan Rupee, 3YO colt Hampton Court, 3YO filly Majmu and older mare Bonaria.

"He has also sired his 64th million dollar yearling and covered an exceptional book of blueblood mares during his second season at the Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval in France."

14 of his sons have already left Stakeswinners at stud including the likes of Snitzel - champion Australian third crop sire, Not A Single Doubt, Beneteau - this season's early leader on the Australian First Season Sires' list, and Stratum including three Gr1 winners; champion Australian first and second Crop Sire. Seven sons of Redoute's Choice have sired Gr1 winners.

Redoute's Promise stands for a fee of R5 000 this season.
