KZN-breds Become Stallion And Broodmare Of The Year - Cape Awards
| |
The Cape Breeders held their breeding and racing awards recently, with two KZN-breds taking prominent awards for breeding - the first being multiple national champion sire Jet Master for Stallion Of The Year, the next being Carl and Amanda De Vos' brilliant Broodmare Of The Year - the daughter of another multiple national champion sire in Foveros, Star Of Arcole. Rosier by Kildonan was rewarded in the Racing Awards.
A huge loss to breeding in South Africa after his premature death, Jet Master certainly needs no introduction and finished at the top of the National Sires Log this past season - a position he has headed multiple times previously.
Bred by Scott Bros, Star Of Arcole has produced two Gr1 SA Oaks winners with Arcola and Ash Cloud, as well as Gr2 Gold Circle Oaks winner Princess Of Light. Star Of Arcole is out of Argentine mare Arcole, herself a winner of the Gr2 Natal Oaks and Clairwood Gold Vase.
Wilgebosdrift's Rosier, an outstanding daughter of Kildonan - the latter owned by Wilgebosdrift and standing at Yellow Star Stud in Mooi River, saw her take home the Cape Racing Awards for Juvenile Filly Of The Year. Trained by Glen Kotzen, the speedy filly has had five starts, three wins (including the Gr2 Debutante and East Cape Fillies Listed) and a place, the latter in a Gr1 to Alboran Sea.
Kildonan has got off to a phenomenal start at stud, producing a number of winners from his first crop and another black-type with Tribute To Kylie. A speedy horse who set a record in the Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint (yet to be broken) as well as winning the Gr1 Premier's Champion Stakes, Kildonan stands for just R10 000 this season.
Congratulations to the winning breeders.
