Summerhill Stallion Day: Capetown Noir Introduced Summerhill Stud held their Stallion Day on Sunday, traditionally after the Vodacom Durban July where the winning colours of Lady Laidlaw's Khaya Stables crossed the winning post of Africa's most illustrious horse race, were again presented on Sunday when Capetown Noir was introduced. Under unusually warm sunny Midlands weather at 29 degrees, it was once more a fabulous day with top class hospitality on offer courtesy of Hartford House. Karl Neisius was aboard the handsome Capetown Noir as trainer Dean Kannemeyer lead the triple Gr1 winner out for the substantial crowd present on the hills of the magnificent thatched facilities of the School Of Management Excellence. One of two new stallion prospects for KZN this year, the immaculately-bred Capetown Noir by Western Winter out of Akinfeet by Fort Wood has a close link to Summerhill pedigree wise, with his grand dam, Guineas winner Dance Every Dance by Northern Guest - herself the grandchild of Champion sire Jungle Cove. After winning his debut by two lengths, Anton Marcus hailed Capetown Noir as the best juvenile he had sat on that season. A R1-million yearling with a career that spanned over three years, the big dark bay colt with the unusual white blaze down his face annhilated the likes of Run For It, Sanshaawes, Love Struck and King Of Pain, Yorker and Jackson. Capetown Noir won the Gr1 Cape Premier Guineas, the Gr1 Investec Derby, the Gr3 Byerley Turk, Gr3 Matchem Stakes and Gr1 LÓrmarins Queens Plate. His dam, Akinfeet, won in South and Dubai and has produced 11-time (and Gr3) winner Across The Ice, a full-brother to Capetown Noir. Mick Goss stated during his introduction of Capetown Noir: "His arrival at Summerhill marks the best South African racehorse to set foot on the property since National Emblem two decades ago. We all know what he [National Emblem] did: two Juvenile sires' premierships and a prolonged spell among the "Big Five" was an eloquent broadside for those critics who thought he lacked the substance to make a stallion!" "If Capetown Noir was part of the parade, no man felt safe." Capetown Noir will stand his first season at Champion Breeders' Summerhill Stud for a fee of R20 000 (R5000 nomination and R15 000 live foal). Linngari is currently in the process of making his trip from Europe to join Capetown Noir for the season. The son of Indian Ridge out of Lidakiya by Kahyasi, in turn out of a Doyoun mare, is an asset to KZN with his blue blooded pedigree and impressive globe trotting Group winning race record, something he has passed down to the likes of his progeny such as Mr Pommeroy. From ages five to six Linngari was rated 124, and earned Black Type in eight countries with 11 wins, only out of the money from four of his 29 starts. He captured two Gr1's in the process, and three Gr2's, including finishing third in the Gr1 English Champion Stakes behind New Approach. Linngari will stand for a fee of R25 000 in his first South African season (R10 000 nomination and R15 000 live foal). Summerhill's super exciting young stallion Visionaire has taken the juvenile races by storm, getting his 11th winner and 24 places from just 27 horses to race, on just their first few runs - headed up by Gr3 winning Royal Pleasure. The big son of Grand Slam looks an absolute picture with a glowing copper coat and stands for a fee of R40 000 this season, (R10 000 and R30 000 live foal).
